Moissanite is a lab-created diamond simulant which offers a beautiful and affordable alternative to natural diamonds.

What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is a premium stone with characteristics similar to that of Diamond. So similar that Moissanite will pass most Diamond testing kits. Usually only found naturally in meteors, Moissanite is lab-made from Silicon Carbide and typically has flawless characteristics. It scores an impressive 9.25 on the Mohs scale, features a higher brilliance (refractive index of 2.65 vs 2.42 in diamond) and has perfect colour grading (colourless).

Instead of being sourced from mines running under unethical practices and in conflict zones, every Moissanite stone is made in a lab and can be properly sourced back to the lab in which it was produced.

Why Do We Use Sterling Silver?

One of the most crucial characteristics to a long-term engagement ring or wedding band is that it needs to be resizeable. This essentially leaves only three options - Sterling Silver, White Gold and Platinum. Because White Gold and Platinum are incredibly expensive, we chose to use Sterling Silver in our rings.

How to Care for a Sterling Silver Ring

Sterling silver is a beautiful yet delicate metal that can tarnish over time due to exposure to air, moisture, and chemicals. Tarnishing occurs when silver reacts with sulfur-containing compounds, leading to a dull, dark or discoloured layer on the surface. This is normal, but can be prevented. A tarnished layer can also be removed with the right cleaning. With proper care, you can keep your sterling silver ring looking its best.

Why Does Sterling Silver Tarnish?

Sterling silver is composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, including copper. Pure, 100% silver is far too soft to be used in jewellery. The copper component makes it more durable and usable in jewellery, but also more prone to tarnishing when exposed to air, humidity, and chemicals like perfumes and lotions (particularly sources of Sulphur).

How to Prevent Tarnishing

• Wear It Often: Natural oils from your skin can help prevent tarnish. Washing your ring every day will prevent this.

• Store Properly: Keep your ring in an airtight bag or anti-tarnish pouch when not in use.

• Avoid Chemicals: Remove your ring before applying lotions, perfumes, or using cleaning products. Do not wash your ring with household soaps, as these contain Sulphur and will dramatically increase the rate of tarnishing. Avoid wearing your ring while swimming in salt water or chlorinated pools.

• Keep It Dry: Moisture speeds up tarnishing, so dry your ring thoroughly after washing your hands or exposure to water.

How to Remove Tarnish

• Polishing Cloth: Use a soft silver polishing cloth to buff away light tarnish.

• Correct cleaning products: While polishing, use a silver polishing cream such as Silvo or Connoisseurs Silver Jewellery Cleaner. A mild, sulphur-free soap can be used, but will not be as effective.

• Baking Soda Paste: Mix baking soda with water to form a paste, rub it onto the ring, then rinse and dry.

• Aluminium Foil Method: Line a bowl with aluminium foil, add baking soda and hot water, and soak your ring for a few minutes before rinsing and drying.

By following these simple steps, you can keep your sterling silver ring looking brilliant and tarnish-free for years to come. Do not be distressed if your ring does tarnish, as this can be removed.

MOISSANITE RING CARE

It is worth noting that our rings use a sterling silver band which is softer than more expensive resizeable precious metals and should be cared for properly, with careful attention towards avoiding bumps to the prongs holding smaller stones. Damage / stone loss due to negligence is not covered by the warranty, as would be the case for Diamond rings bought from jewellers.

RETURNS

Unwanted rings may be returned to us provided the product, packaging and all contents are returned in the same condition in which they were sent.

Free returns are not available for sizing exchanges - all rings are resizeable (a service available at your nearest jeweller). We will always recommend taking your ring to a jeweller for a sizing adjustment regardless, as the perfect size often lies half or even quarter sizes between full sizes.

WARRANTY

All Watches and jewellery are covered by a two-year warranty. This warranty covers functional parts of the watch. The warranty excludes any form of accidental damage, damage due to negligence or misuse or general wear and tear.

SHIPPING

All orders should arrive within 1-7 working days after placing the order. The order will be shipped via FedEx International Express for International orders, and DPD Laser for local orders. After your order has been fulfilled you will receive tracking details to track your order as it makes its way to you.

For local orders, an overnight delivery service is available at checkout. This service only applies to major centres & suburbs in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. Note that this also does not apply to addresses in townships or government buildings / embassies. In order to ensure same-day collection, your order needs to be placed but 12:00 midday (+2:00 CAT). If placed after this time, your order will be collected the following day using the same shipping service you selected at checkout.

Free shipping is available on all orders over R1000.

RETURNS

Free returns can be claimed on items that qualified for free shipping. The return must be initiated no later than 30 days from delivery. We will only accept returns for unwanted items if they are unworn and in the exact same condition they were in when leaving our warehouse. Returns will not be accepted for jewellery, watches, glasses or straps that have been worn at all.

Before organising a collection for your return, we may ask for photos of your order to confirm that the item is in an un-worn condition. Please note that the refund will only be given once the product has been received and it is physically verified to be unworn and undamaged. If the item is considered "worn", the refund and return will be void. Expedited shipping, VAT and duties are non-refundable since this money is not received by Colton James.

Note that items bought under a sale or the use of discount coupons still qualify for a refund, however the shipping cost of the item will be deducted from your refund.
